How can You prevent a failure with your septic system?
We recommend routines maintenance and using the system properly to get the longest life out of your system. Systems that are designed, and installed properly, then the maintenance is up to the home or business owner.  We recommend inspecting your system every year and to see if anything need to be done.  Don’t throw any thing that is not supposed to go in the toilet. Only flush toilet paper.  Many things that are not supported to go in the toilet will clog up your septic system.

Try not to use the garbage disposal
Using a garbage disposal can add grease and solids that can actually build-up quickly and clog up your drainfield. We recommend using it as least as possible to avoid future problems.

Don’t put household chemicals down the drain.
Believe or not many chemicals can destroy bacteria in the septic system and those bacteria are actually necessary to help to break down the solid in you tank.  We have also found that long-term antibiotics and medications may also help to kill important bacteria in your tank. That bacteria helps to break down the solid waste, so it is needed.  If you need to dispose of chemicals contact the public health hazardous Waste Phone Number to see what to do with them.

Don’t use as much water.
One of the things that may help to increase the life of your septic system is to use less water.  Using way too much water seem to be a frequent factor in many failed systems.  As well as flushing down items that are not meant to go down the toilet.
